Introduction to the world of rock climbing
Guided Beginner Rock Climbing Weekend in the Dolomites
The first step from an indoor climbing gym to real rock is something special. This three-day climbing weekend in the Dolomites is designed for indoor climbers who want to experience outdoor climbing for the first time. Around the Sella Pass you will find compact Dolomite limestone, impressive rock formations, and classic routes set in one of the most famous mountain landscapes of South Tyrol.
Together with a certified mountain guide, you will first gain experience on natural rock in a climbing garden, getting used to rock texture, friction, and exposure in a relaxed environment. Step by step you will then progress to multi-pitch routes: you can focus entirely on movement on the rock while the guide manages rope handling and route choice. Even without alpine experience, you will safely enter the world of Dolomite climbing routes and build confidence on real rock.
The overnight stay at the Carlo Valentini mountain hut is located directly in the heart of the climbing area. This allows tours to start right from the accommodation, and after climbing days there is time to enjoy the sunset over the Dolomite peaks. The combination of real rock climbing routes, stunning scenery, and a cozy hut atmosphere makes these days an intense mountain experience — ideal for anyone who wants to discover climbing outside the gym.
Program:
| Day 1 | Stone City: First contact with real rock The weekend begins in the climbing garden of the “Stone City” near Sella Pass. In a calm environment you will get used to natural rock, the friction of Dolomite limestone, and climbing outside the gym. The day focuses entirely on your first outdoor climbing attempts. In the evening, a short hike leads to the Carlo Valentini Hut for the overnight stay. |
| Day 2 | Sella Towers The second day features an easy alpine rock climb on the Sella Towers. The route follows several pitches on solid Dolomite limestone. You will experience real multi-pitch climbing with belays, rappelling, and exposed sections — always guided and secured by the mountain guide. Return to the hut afterward and enjoy a relaxed evening. |
| Day 3 | Multi-pitch climb on the Ciavazes To finish the weekend, another classic route on the Ciavazes awaits. The climb offers varied rock passages and impressive views of the surrounding Dolomite peaks. After the descent, the climbing weekend ends in the afternoon. |
