Giro della Grande Guerra

Historic Giro della Grande Guerra in the Dolomites

Guided Ski Circuit Through the History of World War I

The Giro della Grande Guerra – also known as the Gebirgsjäger Ski Tour or Kriegerrunde – is one of the most impressive ski circuits in the entire Dolomiti Superski area. Covering around 80 kilometers, it leads through the very heart of the Dolomites and combines spectacular mountain scenery with significant sites from the First World War. Between the towering rock faces of Civetta, Marmolada, Tofana and 5 Torri, you dive deep into the history of the former Dolomite front while experiencing one of the most scenic ski circuits in the Alps.

Perfectly groomed slopes and modern lift connections, supported by a few short transfers, take us to the most important World War I locations: Lagazuoi, Sass de Stria, Cinque Torri, Passo Falzarego, the Marmolada and the striking Serrai di Sottoguda canyon. Especially around Lagazuoi and 5 Torri, history becomes tangible — with visible fortifications, tunnels and reconstructed trenches that today resemble an open-air museum. At the same time, the dramatic Dolomite backdrop never leaves our side: rugged towers, deep valleys and the iconic jagged formations that define this UNESCO World Heritage landscape. Again and again, wide panoramas open up towards Pelmo, Averau, Sassongher and the massive Sella Group, giving this historic ski route its unmistakable character.

The route can be completed in a single day, but due to its length and numerous transitions, careful planning is required. A clear time schedule is essential to reach all connections across the different sections on time. With the support of a mountain and ski guide, the daily itinerary and coordination of necessary transitions and transfers are expertly managed, allowing you to fully experience and enjoy the stunning Dolomite scenery and the historic significance of this route.
