Ascent of the Königspitze (Gran Zebrù) – 3,851 m
High altitude tour on one of the most aesthetically shaped mountains in the Alps
The Königspitze (Gran Zebrù, 3,851 m) is, after the Ortler (3,905 m), the second highest peak in the Ortler Alps and an absolute highlight for ambitious mountaineers. Its striking shape and varied route make the climb an unforgettable adventure in the heart of the South Tyrolean mountains.
The journey leads over the Stelvio Pass to Bormio and further on to Santa Caterina Valfurva. From there, it takes about one and a half hours to reach the Rifugio Pizzini (Pizzini Hut), where the overnight stay and tour preparation take place.
On summit day, the route first follows faint trails across gentle terrain before reaching the Gran Zebrù Glacier. From here, a steep gully leads up to the Königsjoch. Depending on conditions, the ascent continues either across a steep snow slope or along an airy rock ridge to the Upper Shoulder, located about 150 meters below the summit. From there, one final steep slope leads directly to the summit of the Königspitze (Gran Zebrù).
With the support of an experienced mountain guide, the ascent of the Königspitze becomes a safe and intense alpine experience in the Ortler Alps – a must for every passionate climber.
