Marmolada

High alpine ascent of the “Queen of the Dolomites”

Climb Punta Penia (3,343 m) – the highest peak of the Dolomites

Together with Punta Penia (3343 m), the Marmolada is the highest mountain group in the Dolomites, a unique massif in the world, located between Veneto and Trento, which was declared a UNESCO natural heritage site in 2009.

Transformed into a battlefield between 1915 and 1917 during the First World War, the Marmolada is now home to the highest museum in Europe in memory of the many soldiers who fell among the rocks.

Since 2020, the Pian dei Fiacconi hut and its iconic basket lift are no longer in operation, which means the ascent can now only be undertaken as a demanding day tour. From the valley, the route requires about 7–9 hours and 1,300 meters of elevation gain to reach the summit and return. The climb follows either the glacier route (with crampons and ice axe) or the exposed West Ridge via ferrata. The descent is always via the glacier.

At the summit of Punta Penia you are rewarded with a spectacular 360° panorama stretching across the Dolomites, the Brenta, Ortler Group, and as far as Veneto.

Together with an experienced mountain guide from South Tyrol, you will climb safely and enjoy the Marmolada at its most impressive – an unforgettable high alpine experience on the highest peak of the Dolomites.
