Rotwand Via Ferrata

Scenic Summit Climb in the Catinaccio Dolomites

An enjoyable ridge via ferrata with breathtaking Dolomite panoramas

The Rotwand via ferrata in the Catinaccio group is one of the most beautiful classic via ferratas in the Dolomites. The guided tour starts at the Paolina Hut at the Karerpass (Costalunga Pass), from where we hike along well-maintained mountain trails for about 1.5 hours to the Vajolon Pass. Shortly before reaching the pass, a first protected section with a ladder introduces you to the upcoming climb.

The ascent follows the north ridge of Rotwand and leads in difficulty grade (A/B) over a wide, well-secured ridge. Technically easy for the most part, we climb over small rock steps and airy passages steadily towards the summit, always accompanied by impressive Dolomite views of the Rosengarten, Latemar and Marmolada. At the summit of Rotwand, a spectacular 360° panorama awaits — one of the most scenic via ferrata summits in South Tyrol.

The descent follows either the ascent route back to Vajolon Pass and the Paolina Hut or continues as a traverse to the Rotwand Hut. It is also possible to add the Masarè via ferrata to experience an impressive via ferrata traverse in the Catinaccio.

Together with an experienced mountain guide, you will travel safely on the Rotwand via ferrata and can fully focus on the mountain experience, the spectacular scenery and the unique rock formations of the Dolomites - a perfect guided via ferrata tour for beginners and leisure climbers in a high-alpine environment.
