A Classic Dolomites Route in the Rosengarten
Across steep rock ledges and dramatic passages into the very heart of the Rosengarten
The Santnerpass Via Ferrata is one of the true classics in the Dolomites, leading through the striking western cliffs of the Rosengarten massif. Starting from the Rifugio Fronza (Kölner Hütte), the route climbs in varied terrain – across ledges, slabs, and steeper passages – up to the Santner Pass at 2,734 m. Technically rated B/C, the ferrata is considered moderate, but requires good fitness, surefootedness, and a head for heights.
Along the ascent, breathtaking views open up: to the west across the Eggental and Latemar, while within the Rosengarten the famous Vajolet Towers rise dramatically into the sky. The Santnerpass Via Ferrata offers the perfect mix of enjoyable climbing and high alpine atmosphere, making it one of the most popular routes in the Dolomites.
After around 5 hours of hiking and approximately 830 meters of ascent, climbers reach the Santner Pass, where the Santnerpass Hut invites for a well-deserved break or overnight stay. For those with more ambition, the tour can be perfectly combined with further routes in the Rosengarten, such as the Vajolet Towers or the Kesselkogel.
The Santnerpass Via Ferrata is an excellent choice for those looking for a scenic, rewarding, and technically manageable ferrata in the heart of the Dolomites.
