Sass Rigais

Guided Ascent of the Sass Rigais

Discover this Classic Via Ferrata in the Geisler Peaks

The Sass Rigais (3,025 m) is the highest peak of the Geisler Group and one of the most iconic climbing destinations in the Dolomites. The ascent via the Normal Route offers a perfect mix of alpine hiking, ridge scrambling, and secured via ferrata sections – an unforgettable mountain experience surrounded by breathtaking scenery.

The approach usually starts from the Col Raiser cable car station (2,100 m) and follows picturesque alpine meadows and rocky trails for about an hour and a half to reach the start of the via ferrata. Along the way, you already enjoy magnificent views of the Geisler Group and the Val di Funes below.

The via ferrata itself leads through varied and partly exposed terrain, combining airy ridges with well-secured climbing passages. The Sass Rigais via ferrata is rated moderate to challenging (B/C) and requires good footing, a head for heights, and basic alpine experience. Rock sections alternate with short walking stretches, making the ascent diverse and rewarding.

At the summit of Sass Rigais, climbers are rewarded with a breathtaking 360° panorama over the Dolomites, including the Langkofel, the Puez Group, and the vast alpine landscapes of the Val di Funes. The descent follows the normal route back toward the Col Raiser cable car, rounding off a perfect alpine tour.

Accompanied by a certified mountain guide, the Sass Rigais via ferrata becomes a safe and unforgettable experience – ideal for those who want to explore one of the classic Dolomite routes and enjoy the majestic scenery of the Geisler peaks.
