Ski Mountaineering Cevedale & Königsspitze

Guided Two-Day Tour: Monte Cevedale & Königspitze

Combined ski mountaineering tour to two of the most impressive peaks of the Ortler Alps

This high-alpine two-day tour combines two of the finest ski mountaineering tours in the Vinschgau Valley and offers an intense experience in a vast glacial landscape. The program begins with Monte Cevedale (3,769 m) – an ideal acclimatization tour with wide snow slopes and an impressive panorama of the Königsspitze, the Ortler, and the surrounding peaks of the Ortler Group. On the second day, the technically more demanding ski mountaineering tour to the striking Königspitze (Gran Zebrù, 3,851 m) follows, featuring steep sections and a rewarding descent.

The tour starts on the first morning in Sulden. Taking the first cable car, we reach the Schaubach Hut (Rifugio Città di Milano), from where we ascend across the Sulden Glacier through glaciated terrain toward the Monte Cevedale. Depending on snow conditions, the final meters to the summit are completed with crampons and ice axe. At the top, a stunning 360-degree panorama awaits before descending over wide glacier slopes toward the Pizzini Hut (2,706 m) – a scenic and rewarding descent across the Cedec Glacier into the heart of the Ortler Alps.

After an overnight stay at the Pizzini Hut, the second day begins with an early ascent to the Königspitze. The route leads across the Gran Zebrù Glacier in a northeasterly direction, passing striking ice and snow fields. Below approximately 3,045 m, a ski depot is usually set up before continuing with crampons and ice axe in steep terrain to the so-called Lower Shoulder. A steep snow slope of up to about 40° leads to the Upper Shoulder, from where an exposed snow ridge brings you directly to the summit cross of Königspitze at 3,851 m. The descent follows, depending on conditions, either via the East Couloir or over the Cedec Pass back down toward Sulden.

This two-day ski mountaineering tour requires very good skiing technique, strong fitness, and high-alpine experience. Königspitze in particular is considered one of the more demanding objectives. Led by a certified mountain guide from South Tyrol, the tour becomes a safe and memorable experience with spectacular summits and rewarding descents.
