Ski Mountaineering Ortler

Ski Mountaineering Tour to Ortler

Guided ski tour to the highest peak in South Tyrol

The Ortler (3,905 m) is the highest mountain in South Tyrol and one of the major objectives for ambitious ski mountaineers. This high-alpine ski tour leads through impressive glaciated terrain and combines long glacier ascents with steep sections – a true spring highlight for experienced ski mountaineers.

The guided tour starts at Heilig Drei Brunnen near Trafoi in the Vinschgau Valley. From there, the approach leads to the Bergl Hut (2,188 m), where an overnight stay is also possible. From the hut, the route continues on touring skis across glacier fields through the striking Trafoi Ice Gully and into the Bärenloch, a wide glacial basin below the Ortler. Over increasingly steep slopes and the upper reaches of the Ortler Glacier, the ascent continues to the Ortler Plateau and finally to the summit at 3,905 m. The descent follows the ascent route.

During the climb, spectacular views open up toward the surrounding ice giants of the Ortler Alps, including the Königsspitze and many other high-alpine peaks of the region. Upon reaching the summit, a breathtaking 360-degree panorama rewards the long ascent.

This tour is technically demanding and requires excellent off-piste skiing skills, confident movement on glaciers, and outstanding physical fitness, especially if climbed in a single day. It is primarily aimed at experienced and well-conditioned ski mountaineers with high-alpine experience.

You will be accompanied on this guided ski mountaineering tour to Ortler by a certified mountain guide from South Tyrol, whose expertise ensures safety in high-alpine terrain, optimal route choices, and a fully professional ski touring experience.
