The Steger Direct is a prominent alpine climbing route on the east face of the Rosengartenspitze (2,981m) in the Rosengarten massif, considered a classic challenge for climbers in the Dolomites. The route stretches over approximately 600 meters of vertical rock, following impressive cracks and steep walls before easing into the summit ridge.
The Steger Route is an extensive alpine climb that requires stamina, strength, and solid experience in multi-pitch routes and high-alpine terrain.The route consists of 20 pitches with an alpine difficulty rating from UIAA IV to V+, including a crux section rated VI-, making the Steger Direct one of the more challenging multi-pitch climbs in the Dolomites. The descent follows the normal route, providing a smooth and scenic finish.
The approach usually starts from the Vajolet Hut or along nearby trails leading to the base of the route, with stunning panoramic views of the Dolomites along the way. At the summit, climbers are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic vistas over the Rosengarten peaks, the Vajolettal, and the surrounding mountain landscape.
