Via Ferrata Cesare Piazzetta - Piz Boè

Cesare Piazzetta Via Ferrata on Piz Boè

Historic and Technically Demanding Climb in the Sella Massif

The Cesare Piazzetta Via Ferrata on Piz Boè (3.152m) is one of the most challenging and spectacular via ferratas in the Dolomites. The route runs along the south side of the imposing Sella Massif and combines steep, technical climbing sections with exposed traverses and breathtaking views of the surrounding high mountain landscape. Due to its difficulty, it is a true challenge among Dolomites via ferratas and a special experience for experienced via ferrata climbers.

The tour starts at Passo Pordoi. From here, a well-marked trail leads to the base of the rock wall, where the Cesare Piazzetta Via Ferrata begins. Immediately, a steep wall demands strength. The route features challenging D-grade sections, sometimes with minimal natural footholds, multiple steep sections, airy traverses, and a suspension bridge, before continuing through easier but still alpine terrain.

At the summit, climbers are rewarded with a stunning panoramic view over the Dolomites: from the Marmolada Glacier in the south, across the peaks of the Sella Massif, to the wide valleys and mountain ranges of the region. The breathtaking scenery more than compensates for the high demands of the route, offering an unforgettable alpine panorama.

The descent from Piz Boè follows the normal mountain trail to Forcella Pordoi and back to Passo Pordoi. Alternatively, the Sass Pordoi cable car can be used to ease the return journey.

The Cesare Piazzetta Via Ferrata is suitable for ambitious, physically fit climbers with solid via ferrata experience. Accompanied by a certified mountain guide from South Tyrol, you can safely enjoy this demanding climb while focusing fully on the stunning panorama, technical challenges, and alpine atmosphere – a true highlight of the Sella Massif in the Dolomites that will be remembered for years.
